Human-Building Interactions

This project explores the development and application of multi-agent simulation methods to predict and analyze human-building interactions in complex environments (such as hospitals, workplaces, and transportation facilities) under day-to-day and emergency scenarios. Our approach is based on the concept of 'narratives', computational entities that direct the collaborative and goal-driven behavior of virtual agents in built environments.

Intelligent & Adaptive Environments

Information Technology (IT) is making its way into buildings, generating real-time data streams that could potentially inform spatial, social, and operational adaptations to meet people's needs. This projects aims at developing the "brain" of intelligent buildings, which are capable of sensing human behavior (through sensors, IT systems, and IoT devices), predicting the implications of alternative resource allocation strategies (such as spaces, people, and equipment), and informing the real-time operations of complex facilities (such as hospitals) to improve space utilization, operational efficiency, and people's experience.

Spatial and Social Awareness

Spatial Perception & Cognition

This projects aims at equipping autonomous virtual agents with spatial perception and cognition capabilities to evaluate architectural design and building operation strategies in day-to-day and emergency scenarios. Our approach is based on the concept of 'Influence' and 'Affordance' maps, which provides agent with situational awareness about spatial, social, and environmental conditions that could impact their dynamic and context-dependent behaviors.

Cyber-Physical Places

This project aims at exploring how how mixed reality approaches (including Virtual and Augmented Reality) can support the creation of cyber-physical places, which combine elements of both physical and virtual worlds to foster immersive experiences, and social interactions.

Mixed Reality Environments
